Minimally Invasive Gum Surgery

At our clinic we try to be as conservative as possible in our treatments, opting for minor surgical when non-surgical procedures are not an option.

Minor surgical procedures are done using surgical blades or, in recent times, dental lasers that make the procedure painless and bloodless.

The minor surgical procedures undertaken at our clinic include:

  • Gingivoplasty

Gummy smiles can be very un-aesthetic. Gingivoplasty helps reshape the gum tissue to correct smile aesthetics.

  • Gingivectomy

Gingivectomy involves removal of enlarged gum tissue. Gum enlargement can be idiopathic (cause unknown) or may occur due to infections or certain medications.

  • Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a common procedure that involves trimming or recontouring the gum margin to increase the tooth height for better retention. Crowns/bridges must firmly fit onto the existing tooth. If the height of the tooth is less, it makes tooth preparation difficult, leading to poor retention. In such cases, crown lengthening can help.

  • Frenectomy

The frenum is a connective tissue membrane found at the base of the tongue (attaching to the floor of the mouth) and under each lip (attaching to the gums). Unusually short or tight frenulum can restrict movement of the lips or tongue, causing difficulty in speech and swallowing. Frenectomy is a common and a simple surgical procedure performed to correct this issue, which causes conditions such as tongue tie, lip tie, or high frenal attachment.

  • Gum Depigmentation

Gum depigmentation is a procedure done to lighten or remove unaesthetic brown or black spots on the gums. This cosmetic procedure, to lighten gums and make them pink, can be done in less than an hour.

  • Operculectomy

Operculectomy involves the removal of a flap of gum that is partially or completely covering a tooth. It is typically used to expose impacted wisdom teeth.
